Charles E. Maulbetsch, age 49, is the founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Christopher Place Senior Communities based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Christopher Place Senior Communities currently owns and operates 745 senior independent, assisted living, and Alzheimer’s units in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, and Oregon.

Mr. Maulbetsch has 23 years’ experience in the creation, acquisition, and operation of public housing, senior housing, assisted living, long-term care, and congregate care facilities. He is considered a leading national expert in the preservation of affordable housing and the tax-exempt financing of housing and healthcare properties. Prior to founding Christopher Place, he participated in the acquisition and financing of over 1,700 senior and multifamily housing units, founded two 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit companies with over $100 million in assets, and was a Certified Public Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (currently known as PricewaterhouseCoopers) and Ernst & Whinney (currently known as Ernst & Young). He holds a degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University

Susan HershbergerSusan joined the team at Christopher Place bringing 13 years of experience in corporate and public accounting as well as 3 years in property management. Susan most recently served as the Controller in a Lansing-based company serving the travel and distribution industries. She is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting and Information Systems. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Ryan HousekeeperPrior to joining Christopher Place, Ryan served as Vice President of Acquisitions—Finance and Construction for Canyon Creek Development, an affiliate of Sunwest Management, one of the largest privately held senior housing firms in the United States. Previously, he analyzed senior housing transactions for Integra Realty Resources, the largest property valuation and counseling firm in the U.S. Ryan has a Bachelor of Sociology degree from the University of Oregon, and he has completed graduate course work at Portland State University in housing economics and income property valuation course work from the Appraisal Institute.

Susan Westhoff Susan manages marketing initiatives for Christopher Place’s investment opportunities and managed properties. Through print and the Web, she keeps our investors informed and connected, and she promotes Christopher Place’s senior communities in their local regions. She has 10 years of experience in business management in the medical field and formerly worked as a graphic designer at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, and in her own design service. Susan has an Associate Degree in graphic design from Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor.

Beverly Harris has more than 16 years of accounting experience.  Her most recent position was as Controller for an automotive technology company serving the domestic and international markets for testing solutions and data acquisition software. Beverly holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and is a graduate from Walsh College with a Masters of Finance degree.







Melissa Smith

Melissa SmithMelissa has more than 15 years of business management experience, including financial, human resources, and operational functions. She has worked in senior housing at an assisted living facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and she also served as the Business Office Manager for Glacier Hills Home Care, Inc., where she managed the daily administrative operations. Melissa works closely with our Managing Broker/Dealer to facilitate investor communication and compliance. She serves as the lead contact for investors and registered representatives for Christopher Place TIC offerings.







Mark Sandell

Mark SandellMark is an award-winning graphic designer and copywriter with over 25 years of experience in traditional print and Web-based media. Prior to joining Christopher Place, Mark ran his own design studio, providing a full range of creative services to many local businesses and organizations. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Mark is an annual guest lecturer in the U-M Communications Studies program and has served as president, education chair, and communications chair of the Ann Arbor Ad Club, an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation.

Tony is a recent graduate from Western Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting. He focuses on general accounting functions and provides administrative support to the management team.
